Los Angeles-based Automatic has released a reinterpreted version of their single ‘Don’t Wanna Dance’ with legendary producer and fourth Beastie Boy, Mario C. The original version, on their 2025 album Is It Now released in 2025 via Stones Throw was a dreamy, hypnotic centerpiece to Is It Now.
Mario C infused fresh energy into the track, taking the minimalist synth-and-bass stems and giving them a punchier, groove-heavy edge that fits right in with the energetic pulse of the rest of the record. Automatic discussed working with Mario C, stating he:
was so much fun to work with, as we have been fans of his since we were little tiny babies boppin’ around to ‘Check Your Head’”.
Ultimately, the Mario C remix breathes vibrant new life into a hypnotic standout, proving that Automatic’s minimalist post-punk is as malleable as it is infectious. It’s a brilliant sonic collision that ensures you will, despite the track’s title, absolutely want to dance.
