Vancouver, B.C. noisy, genre-bending punk band PISS share ‘blocking a scene you can’t remember’, taken from their forthcoming debut album, you made me / skin on linen, out 30 October on LP, CD and DSPs worldwide via Sub Pop and in Canada via Paper Bag Records.
Composed of Taylor Zantingh (vocals), Tyler Paterson (guitar), Gavin Moya (bass) and Garreth Roberts (drums), PISS combine music, poetry, sound collage, performance art and visual art to explore the line between the personal and political.
On their debut album, PISS explore a childhood shaped by structural, systemic and intimate violence, asking how that violence impacts our development and what wounds it leaves behind.
‘blocking a scene you can’t remember’ is a desolate, slowcore song about sexual abuse, with its lyrics taking the form of a monologue, read by a girl in her room as she rehearses a long-overdue confrontation with a man from her past, revealing an unsettling scene. Each ‘cut’ acts as an edit, building on the thread of memory.
The accompanying official video was co-directed by PISS frontperson Tay Zantingh and Nushi Sharma.
