Los Angeles-based indie rock musician brookelen shares ‘omen’ from her upcoming third EP, dark side of the sun, out 23 October via Soliloquy Records.
Built on heavy guitars and raw vocals, ‘omen’ follows the aftermath of learning of an ex-boyfriend’s recent engagement. Like an incantation to reclaim her independence and sense of self, brookelen shares:
“‘Omen’ is my witch-rocky anthem for following warning, prophetic signs that all lead back to self-actualization, independence, queerness, and embracing myself.”
The accompanying music video features Jessicka Addams (Jack Off Jill, Scarling), who frees brookelen from a wedding dress, cutting her loose from its suffocating weight.
“Jessicka really resonated with this song, reclaiming power, being a witch, choosing your own (albeit badass) path. We shot the music video at her incredible gothic tower home on the east side of Los Angeles. The music video is filled with omens (the color red, cats, rabbits, creepy dolls, a wedding dress). Ultimately, Jessicka destroys the wedding dress (cuts me out of it) and frees me.”
