Anaïs & The Hoops

Anaïs & The Hoops is an indie pop project led by singer Anaïs Lund, a West Coast–raised, East Coast–dwelling artist known for her retro yet jazzy aesthetic, often echoing the pop sensibilities of Amy Winehouse. In her EP Growing Pains, released in September 2025, Anaïs sings about coming of age, trying to figure out who you are in the world, deciding what you want to become, and reminiscing on the sentimentality of growing up while realizing how much everything has changed.

In the music video for ‘Growing Pains’, released this past January, Anaïs is featured singing in what feels like a scene straight out of ‘Back to the Future’s high school dance scene. As the crowd moves around her and the band plays behind her, the video cuts between the present moment and home video of a young Anaïs with her friend, creating a contrast between who she was and who she is now.

She opens the song with the line, “Nostalgia on my mind and in my hand a glass of wine,” a moment many young adults can relate to when sitting back and reflecting on how they grew up so fast without even realizing it. It captures that quiet pause where adulthood settles in and reflection takes over.

Throughout the song, Anaïs references her friend Jade, reminiscing about growing up together and the bittersweet nature of childhood friendships. It’s the belief that this person will always be there for you, no matter how much time passes. As the song unfolds, she comes to terms with the reality that even the best things change. Friendships come and go, distance fills the gaps between people living different lives, and all you can do is sit, reflect, and miss the simplicity of growing up. You still wish your oldest friends well and remain there for them in the ways you can, just like you were in childhood.

Oh god I miss the growing pains
The endless summer days
And you were just a drive away
But I know when things have to change now I
I miss the growing pains
These body aches
Are not my idea of fun”

The video ends with Anaïs alone, sitting on the floor and staring off into the distance. Some days, all we want is to relive our childhoods again, using nostalgia as a way to escape the realities we may each be facing. Anaïs does an incredible job using imagery and metaphor to evoke that feeling, one that will resonate deeply with any young adult navigating their own growing pains.
