New York-born, Cambridge-based singer-songwriter Annie Dressner announces her fifth album, Trying To Be Cool, out 12 February 2027, and shares her latest single ‘Hate Being By Myself’.

A jangle-pop track about the push and pull between loneliness and connection, ‘Hate Being By Myself’ captures the desire for solitude alongside the need to be around other people. Caught between the peace and quiet of being alone and the comfort of company, the song explores the contradictions of wanting both. With catchy melodies, bright vocals and a dose of ’90s nostalgia, Dressner shares:

“If you close your eyes, you can imagine hearing this track on VH1 or MTV while eating snacks on a box TV in the kitchen after school, while chatting to friends about crushes and silly school gossip.”

The accompanying video features Dressner’s daughter as a young Annie, representing her childhood self and the idea that our inner child stays with us as we grow up.
