Stockholm-based electro conjurer, artist, and producer, REIN, has dropped a sublime EDM synth-pop album that epitomizes the very best of this expansive genre in God Is A Woman.
Kicking the album off we find ‘How’s It Gonna Be?’ at number one. Dark synths are balanced by feather-soft vocals speculating the future of love for a tired, lonely heart. More vocal mixing and a shrill synth are added midway through, establishing a progressive trance feel for ‘How’s It Gonna Be?’ with the perfect dash of techno elements sprinkled in.
Quickly shifting gears, we arrive at number two, ‘Mutual Satisfaction’. A clanging industrial backdrop sets the scene for eerie, robotic-tinged vocals that sing of bringing forth their own downfall through desire. ‘Mutual Satisfaction’ is a gorgeously metallic, frigidly futuristic club track ideal for moving on the dance floor.
At the halfway mark, ‘Refuse The Pressure’ arrives to make a statement at number five. Deeper vocals combined with industrial features fuel the core of this punk anthem. The lyrics circulate slices of crucial punk ethos such as independence and individuality, revolting against oppression, and being uncontrollably free, what’s not to love here? ‘Refuse The Pressure’ is a defiance-laced electronica track sure to inspire the challenger in us all.
‘God Is A Woman’ emphatically calls upon all those who can hear, to listen at number six. Vibrating bassline and cutting wails carve the portal for this invocation song as a cosmic chorus and other haunting voices praise the Earth Mother and the power within all of femininity. The poem is laid out across further electronic hums and thumping heartbeat effects that make ‘God Is A Woman’ a dynamic composition that ensnares listeners for its four-minute duration.
Toward the end of our album journey, a warm track with House energy greets us in, ‘For You’ at number nine. A heartfelt proclamation of committing love and dedicating empathy carries us across this track as the beat and swirling echo soundscape establish ‘For You’ as an outstanding club staple.
