Her first release in 17 years, LA-based electronic artist and composer Nero’s Day At Disneyland, unveils the scathing breakcore EP Grand Reopening.

‘Perfect Branded Experiences’ slams right into the brash, auditory overdrive of Grand Reopening. Crowding the track with layers that continue to swell and push to the forefront, Nero’s Day At Disneyland fries the senses with eerie precision. A sarcastic sonic smothering, ‘Perfect Branded Experiences’ is the perfect song for our world as it drowns beneath the waves of overconsumption.

‘Ghost Debt’ is a jarring, serrated track that immediately steps into fear with theatrical flair. Operatic cuts, glitching screams, and scraping synth anguish over phantom groans as the pain hits a crushing crescendo. All of the pain heard on ‘Ghost Debt’ isn’t just a simple soundbite for the track, though; it’s active commentary.

“‘Ghost Debt’ encapsulates a lot of the thematic cues of Nero’s Day At Disneyland: fucked-up opera cut-ups, children in danger, noise blasts and fear. It’s mean and volatile. Nero’s Day At Disneyland is a vengeful, sardonic way of looking at the world, without using language, hoping to circle the absurdity and cruelty of capitalism.”
– Lauren Bousfield (Nero’s Day At Disneyland)

‘∅Babylon’ opens with a bone-chilling crackle as chants waft across a broken, hallowed soundscape. As metallic clatter gives way to static, bass-laden layers over ominous tolling bells, gasps and rattling chains shift the tone ever closer to ghastly death throes. Ghostly lament or a damning curse, who can say? Either way, ‘∅Babylon’ unfolds into a blossom of finality.

Grand Reopening is an electric circus mockery of our time. Ruthless and tonally heavy-handed, Nero’s Day At Disneyland packs a commentative punch here and is a welcome re-emergence on the breakcore scene.
