We fell in love with Sassyhiya as soon as we heard the name! They're coming to play LOUD WOMEN Club at Islingtons' Hope & Anchor this Saturday (along with Vulgar Breeds, Snoozers, I, Doris, and Chloe Dejon). And of course we set them our probing 5 question interview ...

1. For people who’ve not heard you play live before, what can we expect from you at the LOUD WOMEN gig?

If you’ve not seen us before, then prepare for fun and melody. Catchy bits, angular bits, noisy bits and sweet bits. We have songs about a puppet museum, gardening and Kristen Stewart.

2 . What’s the most important thing we need to know about your band right now?

We are Kathy and Helen (previously of cult LGBT wonky guitar pop band Barry). We started recording stuff for Sassyhiya at home during lockdown but have now expanded to a proper live band with our pals Neil and Pablo. And most importantly, we’re good!

3. If you could add any musician (live or dead) to your band lineup, who would it be?

We’ve gone for 3 of the dead variety:

  • Yma Sumac – backing vocals
  • Delia Derbyshire – electronics
  • Moondog – Viking street jazz vibes
[Thanks Sassyhiya for this perfect opportunity to introduce any readers who might not be familiar with her work already to the amazing Delia Derbyshire, who pretty much invented electronic music, on the BBC licence payers’ payroll. Punk AF.]

4. Pass the mic – who are your top 3 contemporary bands?

5. Draw us a picture…

This is our cat Crayon (she is an arsehole)
