York's Misfortune Cookie have a smashing new LP – Heavy Seas – out on Everything Sucks. They released it during lockdown, so they're just now able to tour it! You can catch this awesome foursome in London as they are coming to play the Hope & Anchor for LOUD WOMEN's 'husband promoter', Crossroads of Progress on 12 April. And in the meantime, here's their 5 question interview ...
For people who’ve not heard you play live before, what can we expect from you at the gig?
We like to think we take what has been a tried and tested driving melodic 90s UK punk approach, add a few beers, a lot of smiles and topped with Helen’s folky/country voice. Expect a few bum notes but a whole lot of good times.
What’s the most important thing we need to know about Misfortune Cookie right now?
That we still exist and we still love writing songs and playing them when life permits, and that’s never changed or changing. And Helen has a fancy new guitar.
If you could add any musician (live or dead) to your band lineup, who would it be?
That would be a source of endless debate between the four of us i’m sure, but if Helen chose I think it would be Buddy Holly.
Pass the mic – who are your top 3 contemporary bands?
Our friends from Scarborough, Bear Away; the uniquely wonderful Laura Stevenson; and Big Nothing from over the pond
