Mica Millar launches a new single today, ‘Girl’, aptly timed for International Women’s Day today – exploring intersectional themes of female empowerment, racial injustice, relationships and human nature. It’s catchy as hell too!

To find out more we asked Mica to take a 5 question interview …

1. Tell us the Mica Millar artist manifesto.

I love that you assume I have an artist manifesto! I’m just someone trying to express myself and connect with people through music. I definitely have a lot of thoughts about the world but I’ll let the songs do the talking on my behalf. Check out my new singles ‘Preacher Man’ and ‘Girl’.

2. What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

For me personally IWD is a day to celebrate the beautiful network of amazing women I’ve had the privilege of working with over the course of my musical journey and been supported by in life. I think international women’s day is about sisterhood, supporting each other, listening to women’s different and unique experiences and perspectives and celebrating our achievements, something we do all year round. It’s positive to amplify this once a year and really take time reflect on it all on IWD.

3. What song by another artist do you wish you’d written?

‘Natural Woman’ written by Carol King and performed by the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

4. Pass the mic – who are the top 3 women artists you’d like us to be listening to right now?

Great question. I recommend H.E.R, Tems and Pip Millet. I’ve had Pip Millets song Ava on repeat recently. Beautiful!

5. Draw us a picture.

[Mica didn't have time to draw us a picture - boo - so here's another video instead!]
