Tribe of Ghosts are back with more apocalyptic metal in the form of FALSE GODS – a grinding and unpredictable track with a sexy and unsettling music video that is a real feast for the eyes and ears.
The song has got a kinky vibe to it (both musically and visually), however it’s combined with disturbing imagery and subject matter to make you feel pretty uncomfortable throughout. Excellent news.
The two singers Beccy Blaker and Adam Sedgwick create a duality of vocal parts, with Beccy’s powerful melodics integrated between Adam’s earthy growls. It’s a combination that works time after time with each song they release.
False Gods opens with an ominous quote “maybe this world is another planet’s hell” by Aldous Huxley, followed by a subdued clicking pulse. Figures in masquerade masks look down at members of the band held captive. It’s clear that things have escalated.

Without warning the song kicks off with the signature searing synths and hard-hitting industrial drums. Beccy’s vocals are in first, snarling and breathing over glitchy effects.
Next, the melodic part of the song is introduced, giving us some calm before the storm. The vocal line teases up and down on a harmonic minor scale, giving the track an ancient feel.
“dislocate our jaws Swallow the world whole, spin the blame, swear it on the bible”
The chorus is brought together by Sedgwick’s thick and distorted vocal frys, and punctuated with Blaker’s strong, modal (with a touch of pop) melodies, a tasty and catchy hook guaranteed to come back later to deliver.
The song continues in this delicious format until its crushing breakdown in the middle where the synths, guitars and drums all come together in a mashup that is the audio equivalent of the apocalyptic subject matter.
Eventually we are left with a steady and pleasing riff to nod along to, I imagine with stank face.
The visuals end in a bloodbath that would rival Dexter on a night out at Blade’s nightclub and then the final chorus comes in to deliver its blow before silence.
Tribe of Ghosts are not to be missed. It’s a matter of time before they explode into the worldwide metal scene. Catch them on tour with URNE at Brighton Patterns on Thursday December 14th.
