Los Angeles band Taleen Kali have gone darker on ‘Viper’, and it suits them.
Built around a cyclical, palindrome-inspired structure, the track coils in on itself: shoegaze haze, post-punk tension, crunching guitars and a chorus that feels like it’s stalking you rather than politely asking for attention. There’s something deliciously menacing about it.
The song grew from an image of a bright blue viper sitting on a red rose, the flower somehow holding the whole thing up without bending. Taleen describes it as being about “the fractured feminine”, and what happens when someone gets pushed and pushed and still refuses to collapse.
‘Viper’ is the first taste of forthcoming album Aepex, due in early 2027 via Dum Dum Records.
