Self-produced Swedish goth pop singer Sibille Attar pilots over the peaks and through the valleys of love’s story arc on evocative new album Amor Fati, released via PNKSLM Recordings.
Sometimes an album, especially a very intentional one, hits the ear and instantly pulls you into its atmosphere and puts you into a trance. One where the project’s focus becomes yours as you levitate from the first track to the finale. This album is one of those.
‘Songs4U’ starts our journey with lines divulging a new love. This track makes it hard to pinpoint where the classic goth of the eighties ends and dream pop begins. It’s lovely and climatic with well-wielded reverb. There are these defining cinematic vocal moments that bring fellow Scandinavian singer-songwriter Lykke Li to mind. That being said, with Attar’s production as a main character, this is absolutely an elixir that is all her own.
‘KL + SA’ is a love song with punch that leans more passion and abandon than soft fairytale. Here, Attar makes the heart swell like that of a lovelorn character at the end of a John Hughes movie.
“I wrote [KL + SA] in a heartbeat which is surprising since my heart was broken. I had that song ‘Vampire Empire’ by Big Thief in memory, inspired by how clearsighted a lyric can be even if you’re spun all around then asked not to spin.”

At last, our pilot takes us in for landing with album closer ‘Some Kind of Stranger’. It is a cover of the 1985 Sisters of Mercy song, but with less despair and more longing. The lover we met at the beginning of the album is now harder to reach. The haunting choir that closes the song leaves the ending feeling not like a conclusion, but a cliffhanger.
During the Amor Fati experience, some moments lift you in the breeze of blooming romance, other moments are darkened with the gothic undertones of the production.
