Los Angeles-based indie rock musician brookelen releases her third EP, dark side of the sun.
Blending indie rock, orchestral arrangements, post-rock textures, folk and ’90s grunge, the sounds converge into something entirely brookelen. With dark side of the sun, she races towards something darker, with heavy riffs and sweeping strings surrounding even heavier truths.
Exploring religious trauma, queerness, sexuality and independence, dark side of the sun uses imagery of angels and demons, Genesis, mythology and omens to confront the parts of ourselves we would rather keep hidden. Drawing on her love of mythology, astrology and demonology, brookelen cuts through layers of ego, secrecy, shame, doubt and lost love.
“‘dark side of the sun’ is about looking directly at the parts of ourselves we’d rather keep hidden. It’s about discovering that healing isn’t becoming someone new—it’s finally allowing yourself to be fully seen.”

Burning unapologetically, brookelen flies towards the darkest part of something so bright. Unlike Icarus, she doesn’t fall. She soars.
