Lisbon-born, London-based songwriter Maripool, the moniker of Natacha Simões, releases her debut album Rotten Luck.
An introspective look at identity, memory and return, Rotten Luck was written during a month-long residency in Lisbon in January 2025, as Simões returned to her roots and herself. What began in isolation eventually broke through into a more collaborative process.
Recorded in South London with Joseph Futak, Rotten Luck brings in Maripool’s live band for the first time. Shoegaze meets ’90s indie rock, with reflective lyrics, VHS recordings and fragments of childhood memories creating a deeply personal record.
According to Maripool, Rotten Luck reflects “the process of reconnecting with a part of myself that never fully left… confronting who I am when everything external falls apart.”
Maripool explores the tension between past and present, and the possibility of moving forward without leaving either behind. Rotten Luck is a scrapbook of memories and growth, piecing together the past while making space for what comes next.
