Essex-born and North London-based, Natasha Petrou, also known as the music project title of Casual Wednesday has released her latest single, ‘Everything Must Go.’ Petrou’s punchy lyrics with reverb-soaked textures feel somehow intimately DIY and impressively grand all at the same time. Her knack for writing catchy, anthemic choruses remains fully intact with this track. Don’t be surprised if you catch yourself singing the infectious line “they say she’s too much to handle because she runs the show and everything must go” every chance you get.
When discussing the impetus behind ‘Everything Must Go’, Petrou explains:
“I’m fed up of hearing stories from my friends about how the men in their dating lives are treating them…Women feel compelled to put their self-respect on the shelf all in the name of ‘gentle parenting’ men into being decent human beings. We’re told that we should accept this treatment so that we don’t end up alone. ‘Everything Must Go’ is the antidote to this mentality; it is a celebration of independence, allowing yourself to fly after releasing yourself from the patriarchal chains forcing you to the ground.”
This track balances nostalgic, 90’s alt-rock grit with a modern, dream pop sheen. Casual Wednesday is a band to watch, and you will undoubtedly be listening to ‘Everything Must Go’ on repeat this summer.
