Los Angeles rockers Julez and the Rollerz share ‘Phaser’, the final single from their debut full-length album Dirty Little Rock ‘N’ Roller, out 26 June via Lolipop Records.
The perfect jolt to our Friday soundtrack, ‘Phaser’ dives into the pressures of the music industry and the challenge of staying true to yourself through the noise and expectations.
On the track, vocalist and guitarist Jules Batterman shares:
“‘Phaser’ came out of a jam the band had in late 2023 at our (then ‘new’) rehearsal space, which we share with some of our favorite bands in Los Angeles. It’s been part of our set now for years at this point, and it’s finally coming out as the last single before our debut album.
More or less, ‘Phaser’ is about the weird feeling of being an artist and accidentally turning your entire existence into a performance. Whether you’re on stage, posting online, talking to people after shows, or awkwardly networking somewhere, there’s this pressure to always be ‘on’ and entertaining enough to keep people paying attention. We’re a band of mostly woman-presenting individuals, and we’ve also been navigating the music industry while figuring out how to balance how we’re perceived visually with the fact that the focus is, and always has been, our music! As mentioned in the song, sex appeal is only ‘half’ of the thrill!”
