Alfreda

The latest single from Alfreda, ‘Patsy’, provides audiences with the latest drop of lore in the TEASERAMA! universe. Teaming up with The XX’s Oliver Smith, Alfreda invites us into a universe where compromise isn’t a weakness. Lush with dreamy warps and plucks of notes akin to water droplets on a petal, Alfreda charms the listener, but still stands her ground.

A Patsy isn’t just the pushover, the sucker, the chump. She’s more intelligent than that. She will take the blame for whatever it is you want to just to keep the peace. And in doing so, asserts her own dominance in a meticulous, almost invisible way.

While Alfreda’s character is ready to take the blame, insisting over and over, “I can be the patsy baby, blame it on me“, there is a certain tenacity behind each syllable. There is no shame in being blamed, and the ultimate sign of strength is your flexibility, not your righteousness. At the same time, she dips her toes into the humorous dramatization that often precedes such a statement. “I just really wanted to hang out with a stranger until 7 AM. Who, me?” Those background lyrics drip with sarcasm and help color the world that is being created. One that bolsters softness and chides callousness.

with a touch ofThe song flits through verse and chorus, always remaining upbeat and dripping with a sincerity that oozes through your speakers. Written specifically for Alfreda, it’s hard to imagine anyone else giving the lyrics the same gumption. Her dramatic mezzo-soprano singing style is reminiscent of Marina and the Diamonds, with a touch of Lady Gaga. Deep, alluring, and fittingly theatrical, thrusting the listener into a world of pretend for the duration of the song.

Alfreda’s commitment and satirization of our melodramatic world make this song, and the whole TEASERAMA! project, one to watch.
