Leeds folk songwriter Rhiannon Hope returns with ‘Magpie’, the follow-up to her debut EP All Things, Rising And Returning.

Built from two shorter pieces, the track transforms into Hope’s longest song to date. She shares the following:

“Each was a little too short to be its own song. I’d never written a song like that before, but I really enjoy how long it is and how completely different the two sections are.”

Inspired by the myth of the magpie and the comfort of collecting, ‘Magpie’ is a tender reflection on attachment and memory.

“‘Magpie’ is a song for collectors. It’s a personal love letter to all the shit I have ever accumulated and loved; trinkets, hats, plants, mugs, posters, books, and anything else. All the things that bring me comfort and make me feel like a person.

I also just love objects; I’m a bit of a hoarder. Not in a shallow way – not that there’s anything wrong with that – but I have sweet wrappers or bottle tops that I can’t let go of because they remind me of a nice memory. I think it’s really special and so I wanted to write about that.”
