A LOUD WOMEN Spotlight interview with Haley of Sløtface
Who’s in the band, and what do you all play/do?
Haley – captain and vocals. Rotating cast of excellent Norwegian musicians along with me. On our latest releases you can hear Simen Følstad Nilsen (Aiming for Enrike, Jaga Kazzist++) Nils Jørgen Nilsen (Honningbarna, Embla and the Karidotters++) Tobias Osland (Hammok)
Where do you call home (geographically and musically)?
Oslo, Norway. Musically we make poppy rock songs and rocky pop songs.
Describe your sound in three words.
Earnest. Energetic. Bops.
Tell us about your music.
Our latest single YES CHEF is about a sadomasochistic chef on a really intense day in the kitchen. It was inspired by Anthony Bourdain, The Bear and Dave Chang and the similarities we find between the intensity of the music business and the restaurant business.
Our fans really connect with a song called ‘Slumber’ that I think hits on the nostalgia of childhood for people our age.
A lot of our music is inspired by film and TV. For example our song ‘I Used To Be A Real Piece Of Shit’ – inspired by a Tim Robinson sketch of the same name.
What’s your local scene like — and how do you fit in, or stir it up?
Oslo, and Norway, isn’t that big so we have a really great rock/punk/metal scene where we all try to support each other. Whether it’s a local band playing a club for the 10000 time or an international act in Oslo for the first time expect some musicians in the crowd cheering you on.
What’s next?
We’re releasing a bunch of singles over the coming year. Trying to make the trip from writing a song to releasing it as short as we can. We’ll also be doing a short run of shows in our favorite UK cities in Feb – Manchester, Bristol, London the last weekend of Feb.
Where can people listen, follow, and support your music?
Follow our newsletter via our website for monthly updates, or join the Sløtface Discord for community with other people that like our band. We’re also on all the other platforms, but these are our faves where we’re trying to build something deeper.
