French Toast play LOUD WOMEN Fest London this Saturday, 5 September, joining 18 other artists across two stages at Rich Mix for our biggest event of the year.
Ahead of the Fest, LOUD WOMEN’s Julia Stark caught up with frontperson Lyly Riott to talk about where the band came from, how their roots in the jam scene still shape everything they do live, and why no two French Toast performances are ever quite the same.
Lyly talks about the freedom that comes from letting songs stretch, shift and change depending on the room and the moment, rather than trying to reproduce exactly the same set every night.
She also gets into the much less glamorous reality of DIY band life: touring, organising everything yourselves, keeping the whole thing moving and somehow fitting it all around a full-time job.
That combination of spontaneity and sheer graft is a pretty good summary of French Toast, and we can’t wait to see what they bring to LOUD WOMEN Fest London this Saturday.
Catch French Toast at 5pm on the Studio stage.
