London electropop group Sohodolls move into new musical territories with their latest release, ‘Last Night Was a Mistake’.
Originally formed in 2003, the band now consists of vocalist Maya von Doll, guitarist Toni Sailor, keyboardist Weston Doll, bassist Matt Lord and drummer Paul Stone. The band has roots in the London goth scene and has since progressed into a more alt-pop and electropunk sound over the years.
Their latest release, ‘Last Night Was a Mistake’, focuses on a fleeting interaction with a kind stranger; although starting as a regretful anthem, the track soon develops into a more heartfelt and imaginative sound. The song’s story turns from hungover memories of the night before to fantasising on how things could turn out, with make-believe ideas of future romantic situations with this new person.
“It’s about that unexpected encounter with someone who has a dream-like quality and never being able to forget them. It’s about an instant connection that completely caught me off-guard. Lyrically I wanted to continue the story the way I wanted it to go before being pulled away from that magical moment.”

Despite being best known for their noughties track ‘Bang Bang Bang Bang‘, which went viral on TikTok, the band recently had another song, ‘Bad,’ featured in Netflix’s new series Geek Girl. Similarly, their latest release brings the same punk attitude but combined with electronic beats and a genre-bending style.
This track comes as a build-up to the band’s long-awaited new album, expected to be released later this year.
