Dutch/British band Zo Lief have crafted their own brand of indie/dream-pop, with influences from the likes of Lana Del Rey, The Last Dinner Party and Arctic Monkeys. Releasing their sophomore EP Hypnosis, musical and romantic partners Laura Chen and James Attwood turn their unique connection into a psychedelic, whimsical dream.

The whole EP is a gorgeous contrast of light and shade; silky smooth and grit; ethereal dreaminess and unsettling obscurity.

“We love the juxtaposition of something that can be both heavenly and heavy, and seek out
the intersection of those opposites; the areas in-between.”

Zo Lief

Opening the EP with ‘You (A Burden)’ and ‘She Makes You Look Twice’, Zo Lief swirl fuzzy, retro guitars around Laura’s floating, melancholic vocals, teasing heavier indie sensibilities in and around the choruses.

Title track ‘Hypnosis’ and single ‘Stop The Party’ lean on the lighter side of Zo Lief’s signature sound. Still creating a full, cinematic soundscape, the vocals are sweet and soothing over gentler, hypnotic guitars and synths.

‘Pinch Me’ and ‘Love At The Laundrette’ show Zo Lief’s playful side with upbeat attitudes, fun lyrics and bouncing melodies.

The sound of Zo Lief is dreamy indie-pop at it’s best; let Hypnosis soundtrack your summer. Out now via LAB Music.
