Brooklyn duo Pink Must shares new single ‘Karaoke of the Bends’ – another glimpse into their self-titled album, out 28 February via Danish label 15 love.
Mari Rubio (More Eaze) and Lynn Avery (Iceblink) are sound artists and musicians who created their own distorted soundscape on their debut.
‘Karaoke of the Bends’, besides being named after one of the best Radiohead albums, is a sentimental track for the album where Lynn Avery takes over on vocals for the first time.
“It’s that kind of corny ‘I know I’ll see you soon, but I want to see you tonight’ feeling and doing karaoke of songs from The Bends by Radiohead.
Lynn Avery
Singing your own songs still kind of feels like doing karaoke”
“Lynn kept teasing this song as we were working on the record, and I was dying to work on it. I came up with a crazy overlapping string arrangement that’s constantly sliding up and down simultaneously, and added pedal steel and a single line of vocals/text that I feel like kind of amplifies the longing for closeness that Lynn’s lyrics portray. It’s all about that moment where you’re singing a song you’ve heard/sung a million times but then realize that it’s different because you’re now singing it for someone. I love this song, and I feel like Lynn captured a very specific sense of longing.”
