Our just dropped, courtesy of the wonderful Piney Gir. ‘Witches & Covens’ offers a sumptuous and twinkling backdrop to Piney’s open-hearted vocals, on a song expressing the hope that ‘if we put good feelings into the universe, the universe will give them back’.

A delightful stop-frame video accompanies the song, created and directed by Rhys Williams.

What’s more, there’s a whole new EP too! Cosmic Upside Down EP is out today on No Distance Records.

With 2024 marking twenty years since she shared her first album, Peakahokahoo, the release of new EP Cosmic Upside Down completes a magical trilogy, following Alchemy Hand in 2022 and its predecessor Astral Spectra in 2021.

Piney explains:

“‘Witches & Covens’ is quite a vibe-shift from the other tracks on the EP – the other tracks are more strident and assertive (‘Show Me The Lightning’), uplifting and bittersweet (‘What Have We Done For Nature?’), or magical and mystical (‘Cosmic Upside Down’), but this is my ‘embracing the darkness’ track, because sometimes you just gotta go dark for a bit.”

Piney Gir will be celebrating the EP’s release with a special show at The Lexington on 1st September, with support from Parentheses Dot Dot Dot & Charley Stone – find tickets here.
