You might have already heard about London-based band Los Bitchos here, but if you haven’t yet, let’s just say it’s a band of four badass women taking their influences from all around the world to create a great psych-rock.

After the success of their first album Let the festivities begin (2022), they have been hitting big stages like Glastonbury and playing alongside King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Mac DeMarco. Now, after a month or so in the studio, their second opus Talkie, Talkie is alive and kicking.

The band is all about sharing and experimenting with their music, far from the constraints of any specific genre. On the one hand, the multiple countries and influences behind each of the band members, and on the other, their love for trying new sounds ranging from Greeks bouzoukis to Cuban timbales.

Los Bitchos managed to create a cinematic universe, both a happy party and a high-speed car chase, so choosing what songs to talk about was a titanic work. Some of the standout tracks, in order of appearance:

The fourth track on the album, ‘Kiki, You Complete Me’, is a song for the road. As one of their favorites to play live, and with a music video heavily inspired by video games, the track takes you on an adrenaline-filled race, slaloming through their influences. As Serra said to Bizarre:

“Coming from all these different places means we’re not stuck in one genre and we can rip up the rulebook a bit when it comes to our influences.”

Then, there’s ‘1K’, the 6th song on the album. The first thing you notice about the track is that it’s already over. This cumbia track is heavily influenced by chicha groups like Los Mirlos, an influence that the group recognises openly. ‘1K’ knows how to make you move with its complex array of percussion: timbales, bongos, shakers, cowbells, and of course, those drums. The whole track invites you to let loose and enjoy yourself. To me, this track is home, and the music video is as wholesome as they come.

All in all, Talkie, Talkie is the consolidation of Los Bitchos sound: experimental, playful, and coming at you with full force. We can’t wait to listen to them live, again and again!
