We are delighted to bring you today the first listen of Maryjo Mattea‘s stunning alt-pop take on Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi. Given a minor key, industrial synth soundscapes, and a hauntingly beautiful layered vocal, the song’s words are echo into our present day dystopia. Mattea describes it as:

“a somber modern-day acknowledgement that all of the hypothetical events depicted in the original folk song have actually come to pass. No longer a playful social commentary, the lyrics now feel more like foreboding wisdom upon which society opted not to act.”
