Chorus Girl: Demon Baby – Track of the day

Indie pop darlings Chorus Girl, now under the wing of our splendid friends in the North Reckless Yes, launched a new single on Friday – Demon Baby – and it’s flipping gorgeous.

They’ve got that 80s synth’n’jangle thing nailed to the tree, blending perfectly with the crisp’n’lilting vocals. Echoes of Yazoo (ask your mum). But yeah, very much yes to this sort of thing.

This is the first song that new member, Faith Taylor (of Suggested Friends), wrote for the band and also sings main vocals on. Let’s hope there’s lots more to come from Faith, what a tune!

It’s a ‘soul baring song about a recurring nightmare and anxiety dream’. In her own words:

“It is about pathologising your own unhappiness when you lack genuine emotional support in your life. The song talks about running away, reinventing yourself, and policing your sense of discontent and isolation because you don’t think you deserve more.”

It was called ‘doing a Reggie’ in my day, and now I’m really showing my age.

The band are touring NOW:

17th Nov: Sheffield, Audacious Art Experiment
18th Nov: Newcastle, Head of Steam
19th Nov: Glasgow, Broadcast
21st Nov: Oxford, Common Ground
22nd Nov: Bristol, Hydra Cafe
23rd Nov: Coventry, The Tin
