Croydon based queer electro-pop-with-the-fun-built-in band BUGEYE just released new single ‘Comfortably Numb’
Having just signed to INH Records for their forthcoming second album release, The Shape of Things on 15 May, this single is a shot of what’s to come; and you’ll want another.
For ‘Comfortably Numb’ there are influences from 80’s synths like Depeche Mode meets The Breeders, who in turn, team up with Bones UK for happy hour… and from the opening synth sounds you can hear the train coming. With Alison Goldfrapp’s voice in your ear.
“With ‘Comfortably Numb’ I really wanted to lean into that darker 80s energy, the moodiness and tension in the production, not just the sound. It actually started with a synth hook at my home studio, and from there we built it in layers rather than jamming it out live. It was my first time properly blending live drums with electronic programming, experimenting with textures and effects to let guitars and atmospheres weave in and out of the track. Once we had that foundation, we took it into the studio with Ash Workman to fully realise the vision and push the sonics into something even more immersive.” – Angela Martin
Produced and mixed by Ash Workman (She Drew The Gun, Christine and the Queens) with co-production and arrangements by Angela Martin of Bugeye, The Shape of Things was mastered by Katie Tavini (Rudimental, Arlo Parks, Los Bitchos).
Bugeye have a murder of shows (hey, if it works for crows) coming up, this first of which is with Cheerbleederz at The Lexington on 13 April. LOUD WOMEN will be there of course, will you?
On 13 June The Shape Of Things album release party is happening at The Grace, with favourites The Dead Zoo. If the past is anything to go by, The Shape Of Things will not be square. Looking forward to seeing guitarist Lex leap into the crowd for a new stage to bash up!
