Brighton duo WREX just dropped ‘Paranoia’, the second single from their upcoming EP, SADWORLD. It’s the type of track that makes you feel seen for your feelings. With an old school MTV style music video to back up the already impressive psychoacoustic effects, it’s the perfect song to rage to.

Noisy vocals, grunge guitar riffs and electrifying fury for the conflict the world creates. This song’s themes tie in with WREXs previous releases, with a perfectly thought out build up that enhances the lyrics and makes the stage come alive. And all of it is broken up with a rhythmic change that slowed down the pace and left us with Mae’s vocals as if giving us rest from the noise, right before going back to rage. The music video shows perfectly the changes of pace and journey of the song. Directed by Dogbrain Videos this is the first time WREX have given over creative rains to someone else and they have done a great job with capturing their essence.

Whenever I review music I listen to the songs multiple times to build connection and truly listen to the lyrics. That normally means I end up being attracted to a single verse more than others for various reasons. And for ‘Paranoia’ it was “You built these walls, but they all fall down”, and whilst I could give you my interpretation of the lyrics, here is Mae letting me in on the meaning of it:

“On that line:
Its a reflection on the coping mechanisms as the supportive walls built up, that crumble so quickly in the depths of a paranoid episode, like all sense and reason go out the window.”

A big part of the new EP, SADWORLD is about reflecting on the affects of the status of the world. And ‘Paranoia’ achieves just this as it highlights the thoughts we all face in this broken world. As we are always online and connected the status of the world affects us more than ever, and its important to know that you are not the only one fighting the battles in your mind.

As we wait for the release of SADWORLD on the 20th of May, have a read of our review of their previous release ‘Consume’ here.
