Legendary noisemaker, artist and eternal disruptor Kim Gordon is back with news of her third solo album PLAY ME, out 13 March via Matador, and lead single ‘NOT TODAY’ proves she’s still miles ahead of the curve. Built on motorik drums and swelling, hypnotic guitars, the track lets Gordon’s voice take centre stage – restrained, intimate, and quietly devastating.
“I started singing in a way I hadn’t sung in a long time. This other voice came out,” Gordon says — and you can hear it. There’s a poetic tension running through the song, a sense of held breath, as if something might crack open at any second. The video, directed by Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, leans into that same haunted elegance, pairing Gordon’s presence with a softness that feels radical in itself.
PLAY ME follows 2024’s Grammy-nominated The Collective, but where that record was abrasive and confrontational, this new album is described as more focused, beat-driven and confident – krautrock pulse meeting sharp political instincts. As ever, Gordon is processing the world as it burns: tech bros, billionaires, cultural flattening – but NOT TODAY shows her doing it from a more interior, emotional place. Still searching. Still dangerous. Still essential. Pre-order the album HERE
