LOUD WOMEN Fest alumni deux furieuses and Charley Stone rocked Oslo in Hackney on Friday night.
Charley Stone, is a proper well-loved indie-queen, working as a touring guitarist for Sleeper, Desperate Journalist, Salad amongst numerous others, and watching just as many in her time off, she finally released her debut album ‘Here Comes The Actual Band‘ in 2024. Joined by the solid rhythm section of Mar K (aka our own Kris Smith) on bass and Laura Ankles (of Yakkie) on drums, they set the tone for an exciting show.
The set included many gems from the power pop influenced album, including ‘Better With You’ and ‘Does She Mention Me’, both hook-tastic and lyrically, you could well imagine them to be about the same break-up. The customary cover via the energetic version of ‘Shut Up’ by The Monks, got the crowd going.

Last song ‘Accide’ inspired by ‘A Book Of Silence’ by Sara Maitland was a grungy belter, complete with Charley’s guitar solo, which avid watchers of Casualty might just recognise.
Catch Charley Stone solo live at the LOUD WOMEN gig at the Hope & Anchor, Islington on 12 April.

Since their debut album ‘Tracks of Wire‘ in 2016, blistering indie-rock power duo deux furieuses, comprising Ros Carney on vocals and guitar and Vas Antoniadou on drums, have kicked up a storm with third and current album 2022’s ‘Songs from Planet Earth’, (the album launch being hosted by none other than LOUD WOMEN), continuing in that tradition.
deux furieuses burst onto stage with high velocity opener ‘Our Tribe’, Ros thanking us for coming out and noting that even going to a gig these days can seem like an act of defiance. Their set was a testament to rage against the all too frequent injustices in society, especially female rage, beautifully wrapped up in a melodic, hard-hitting sonic palate.
I spotted a new song early on ‘Human Animals’, with the catchy anthemic chant,
I set myself on fire
which I proves there is plenty to look forward to.
There was a nod to debut album ‘Tracks of Wire’, with the biting ‘Are We Sexy Enough’, which Ros pointed out was just re-added to their set as the ‘rape culture’ message of the song has not gone away.
‘Our Day Will Come’, former LOUD WOMEN single of the week, is a valiant battle cry of hope over adversity, accentuated with Ros’s powerful vocals, urgent guitar riffs and Vas’s ferocious drumming.
Other highlights included ‘Civilians’, ‘Can We Talk About This’ and ‘Fool All the People’ showcasing the longevity of the band and how they get even better with each album.
deux furieuses announced that they will soon be off to the recording studio, after an intense 2024 touring, including a 25-date European tour with Therapy?, so it was extra special to catch them live.
Set closer ‘Let them Burn’, from second album ‘My War is Your War’, with its visceral chants of,
Shame, shame, shame
and thunderous drums and guitar, echoing a chilling reflection of our times.
deux furieuses are a wonderful reminder that the musical resistance is alive and well and ready for action and I can’t wait for their next album!
