Stockholm-based four-piece Clutter shares their latest single ‘Brideshead’ – the third single from upcoming debut EP Clutter Loves You, out 11 April via PNKSLM Recordings.
Co-vocalists Hilda Ander and Emma French sing from the perspective of the characters in shared favourite book Brideshead Revisited. Clutter shares the following about ‘Brideshead’:
“In ‘Brideshead’, the two vocalists sing back and forth to each other, striving to become one, surrounded by chaotic guitars and playful drums. It’s a dramatic and mellow song, based on the book by Evelyn Waugh. When we wrote Brideshead, the music came first. We made two quite distinct parts, one slower and one more fast paced verse.
We’ve always wanted to write a duet, or a sort of call and response song, so with Brideshead Hilda and Emma wrote lyrics from the two main characters’ point of view. When we compared the lyrics, they matched very well and seemed like a conversation, ending in a melodramatic hazy blur accompanied by Ville’s galloping drums and a rattling guitar melody by Ove.
It’s a very fun song to play live and we really wanted to capture the overwhelming sound and feeling that we get on stage when we recorded the song. I think we did!”
