London post-punks Blow Dry bring plenty of menace to new single ‘Mighty Crimes’. Driven by twitchy percussion and a bassline that seems to be stalking you, it is tense, theatrical and just the right side of unhinged.
Genevieve Welsh does not so much sing as command proceedings, moving between cool restraint and a full-throated warning as the track tightens around her. There is a touch of Siouxsie here, certainly, but Blow Dry have enough personality and visual ambition to avoid sounding like anyone’s tribute act.
‘Mighty Crimes’ feels built for the stage: rhythmic, confrontational and impossible to stand politely through.
