The soundtrack to our Friday is from South London indie-pop band Sassyhiya and their debut album Take You Somewhere (Skep Wax Records).

Alongside their album release, Sassyhiya shares a music video for ‘Thank You And Goodbye’.

“I wanted to write a song in the style of late 70s / early-80s female-fronted post-punk bands like Delta 5 and Oh-OK – arch, spiky and sweet with a playful, scrubby guitar solo. The lyrics of the first few lines are taken, somewhat improbably, from letters between the poets Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell. It’s a conversation between two people, one of whom is a bit obsessive and love-sick. The other isn’t impressed with their advances, though, so decides to reject the angst. It’s about opting cheerfully and without regret for the single life.”
