loyl is the new single by London-based headboy – inspired by a queer speed dating turned Weezer karaoke night. Having imagined life unfolding with everyone in the room, they were left only with the feeling of having “pictured a life with an infinite amount of people” and the beginnings of a lo-fi, left-of-field pop tune.
loyl is a modern love song about modern love. Its a really sweet, joyful indie track. New Order guitars meet with Porridge Radio vocals to make an easily singalong-able tune.
“If you’re queer you have to seek out all kinds of love, and essentially family, to meet people who will love you unconditionally, but once you find them, it’s the best thing in the world.”
The track captures the excitement of new love, while noting the sometimes overwhelming prospect of romantic connection, “learning how to embrace each other, even with the risk of getting hurt”.
