History is full of women who refused to behave, and Boudicca are making sure their stories are heard at maximum volume.
The Newcastle hardcore punks take inspiration from women in history, folklore and mythology, transforming their stories into furious, politically charged music that challenges power, gender expectations and the world we’re living in.
Their latest release, Wretched, arrived in September 2026, delivering a blistering collection of songs that are as thoughtful as they are ferocious.
Opening track ‘Avalon’ draws on Arthurian mythology to explore femininity, identity and power. Elsewhere, ‘Jeanne’ invokes Joan of Arc, examining defiance, persecution and the ways powerful women have been treated throughout history.
It’s a fascinating approach to hardcore: music that looks backwards to ask some very urgent questions about the present.
And with their uncompromising sound and fiercely DIY spirit, Boudicca are exactly the kind of band we love championing at LOUD WOMEN.
We’re delighted to welcome them to LOUD WOMEN Fest Gadigal on Saturday 21 November, where they’ll be bringing that fury to Waywards Ballroom.
