Meet Sunlust 💋
Toronto trio Sunlust have been doing things their own way since 2018, mixing 90s grunge, punk, hard rock and alternative rock with songs written from a femme LGBTQ+ perspective.
Frontwoman Stephanie Woulfe started the band after moving to Toronto from a town of fewer than 1,000 people, determined to make music and get onstage. She’s joined by Stefano Signorile on bass and Paolo Richichi on drums, and the whole operation is fiercely DIY: recordings, gigs, artwork, merch and promotion are all handled independently.
That DIY bit matters. Sunlust talk about the reality of being a small band in a huge city, and about the importance of actually supporting the people around you: going to each other’s gigs, buying the records and merch, and helping build a music community rather than waiting for somebody else to do it for you. Yes please.
Their debut album Geek Confessions arrived in 2021, packed with grunge, punk and gloriously scrappy guitar rock. Since then they’ve continued gigging around Ontario and beyond, with Stephanie, Stefano and Paolo forming the current lineup.
