London-based Spanish-Irish artist Matilda Gracia’s self-produced alt-pop single ‘The Industry’ is a very welcome middle finger to an industry that keeps asking artists to become products, chase algorithms and wait politely for permission. Driving synths, chant-like vocals and a bilingual English-Spanish bridge turn that frustration into something made for shouting along to.
“We hold the key, we are the industry ‘cause what we do matters.”
Gracia taught herself music production so she could create on her own terms, and that DIY independence is the whole point here. ‘The Industry’ is not begging for a seat at the table. It is a reminder that artists built the bloody table in the first place.
The track is the penultimate single from Gracia’s forthcoming EP, My Power, due this autumn.
