American pop artist Bea Miller turns the fear of having peaked too soon into something sharp, funny and painfully recognisable on new single ‘Born to Lose’. Rather than pretending her early success never happened, she digs into the much stranger question of what you are supposed to do afterwards.

It is self-deprecation used as armour, but Miller never lets the joke flatten the truth underneath it. There is real discomfort in wondering whether your biggest moment has already passed, particularly when it arrived before you had much chance to work out who you were.
Written with Justin Tranter, Oak Felder and Dan Crean, ‘Born to Lose’ refuses the usual pop-star reinvention speech in favour of something messier and more believable. Funny, uncomfortable and honest, just as Miller intended.
