Gen and the Degenerates share ‘Sex Symbol’, a funky, foot-tapping new single from their upcoming second album Earthly Delights, out 8th January 2027 via Marshall Records. The north-west based indie art-punk trio lean into an addictive 80s dance-synth feel, paired with a punk bite and messaging. No doubt it’s an instantly memorable track.
The music, lyrics, and video of ‘Sex Symbol’ play with stereotypes and provocative assumptions to deliver a message about objectification, body-policing, and the way people project personality or morality onto someone’s body. Vocalist Genevieve Glynn-Reeves explains that the song comes from being perceived differently because of her body and wanting to point out that hypocrisy.
What makes the track hit so hard is how danceable it is, alongside the serious message that never weighs down the song. ‘Sex Symbol’ is provocative, sharp, and ridiculously addictive.
