We’ve known and loved The NaNaz from their very beginnings – and now they’ve been invited to play LOUD WOMEN Fest NYC in Brooklyn. There’s just one small thing standing in the way: getting them there. So they’ve launched a crowdfunder, and we’d love the LOUD WOMEN community to help make it happen.
The NaNaz are a brilliant group of riot women over 50 from South Wales who formed their punk band through music workshops in Newport — welcoming women with and without musical experience. From that very first performance they’ve grown gig by gig, proving that it’s never too late to start a band and say exactly what you think about the mad world we’re living in.
Our founder Cassie Fox has been lucky enough to be part of their journey too — running one of their early bass workshops and later delivering music promotion sessions with them. From the start, their energy, humour and determination were completely inspiring. Real riot women in every sense.
Unsurprisingly, the media have noticed too. Their debut single ’60 Lies’, produced by Jeff Rose of Skindred, has already been championed by the BBC on radio — and the band are currently the subject of a BBC TV documentary. The cameras will even be following them to New York if the trip happens… so keep an eye on your tellyboxes for that in due course.
But first, we need to get them on the plane.
Playing LOUD WOMEN Fest in New York would be a huge moment for The NaNaz — a chance to connect with women around the world and bring their outspoken, life-experienced punk to an international stage.
So if you can, chip in to the crowdfunder and Help Support a NaNa. Every little bit helps bring these brilliant women from South Wales to Brooklyn.
Let’s make it happen.
