Punk has always been about truth-telling – and no one is telling it louder or prouder right now than The NaNaz, the all-female South Wales punk force making their debut with ‘60 Lies’.
The track takes aim at the injustice faced by 3 million WASPI women denied their pensions. Produced by Jeff Rose of Skindred, it’s a sharp, snarling, hook-laden battle cry that proves that so-called “older” women have fire, fury and fun to bring to the stage.
I had the privilege of leading some workshops with these women as part of the Nana Punk project, and let me tell you – they are awesome. There’s so much talent, grit and experience between them, and the best thing about hanging out with women over 50 is the real talk. They’ve got no fucks to give, and I am totally here for that. That energy crackles through every note of ‘60 Lies’ – raw, fearless, and gloriously unapologetic.
The NaNaz are already making waves: a sold-out Newport show earlier this year, and a Cardiff headline coming up in October. They are, without question, the real Riot Women – wise, wild, and loud as hell.
This single is proof that punk has no age limit – and that The NaNaz are only just getting started.
Since their formation, the band have been going from strength to strength. Following a sold-out show in Newport earlier this year, they are now preparing for their first headline performance in Cardiff.
