If you’re not already on the Paige Kennedy hype, you’re missing out. Well-known for their razor-sharp lyrics and quirky music videos, the London-based artist/producer can be found on Instagram playing their music to strangers in the street and lip-synching radio DJ intros to their songs. This tongue-in-cheek, offbeat sense of humour runs through their music, with previous singles contemplating a career as a lingerie model [‘Lingerie Model‘] or investigating whether the girl in the bar is flirting with them or their male friend [‘Male Friend‘].

But with ‘Oh Honey!’ we hear something more mournful, more vulnerable, and painfully relatable. A yearning, heartfelt break-up anthem, ‘Oh Honey!’ captures the confusion and pleading sadness of heartbreak with a biting, but wonderfully boppy, clarity. Touching on the inspiration behind the track, Paige explains:

“I’m a longtime fan of campy breakup anthems from the likes of Janet Jackson, Prince, and Annie Lennox. When I went through my own cataclysmic heartbreak, I seized the opportunity to write one myself. As someone with a penchant for theatrics, I had a lot of fun writing 80s guitar lines, stacked backing vocals and even slipping in a cheeky key change. The lyrics are raw, focusing on loss and confusion, while the instrumental is fabulously silly.”

‘Oh Honey!’ is the final preview of Paige Kennedy’s upcoming EP Style Over Substance, out February 6th, supported by a headline UK tour:
