There’s something very satisfying about a punk band who don’t overstay their welcome, and The Molotovs understand this instinctively. New single ‘Get A Life’ is over in under two minutes, but it does exactly what it needs to do in that time: kick the door in, shout its piece, and disappear before anyone can argue back.

Led by teenage siblings Matt and Issey Cartlidge, The Molotovs are all buzzsaw riffs, sneering delivery and coiled, bratty energy. ‘Get A Life’ impatient in the best possible way. You can hear their love for classic British punk and indie running through it (Buzzcocks bite, Undertones bounce, a bit of Jam swagger), but it never feels like cosplay. This is sharp, current, and very much theirs.

“Are you ready
For me to take you somewhere?
Do I frustrate you
Like chewing gum stuck in your hair?”

As the opening track of debut album Wasted On Youth, ‘Get A Life’ sets expectations high. The fact that the band are still teenagers but already hundreds of shows deep says a lot about their work ethic – and their obvious commitment to grassroots venues and scene-building makes them easy to root for too.
