Brighton’ based’s Dubais (Do-Buys) just released experimental metal EP, PIPPO – as part of a multi-phase music, research, and performance piece. From now until May 1st, all Bandcamp proceeds will go to two organizations doing amazing PIC abolition work in the USA –  Critical Resistance and National Immigration Project.

Five tracks over six minutes, PIPPO is a short blast of industrial metal. Guitars churn, while the vocals mix between eerie sounding nursery rhymes to full on horror soundtrack screams. The effect is as unsettling as the times we live in.

The EP is part of a much larger experimental project. It aims to break up the boundaries of space and audience. It also explores generative approaches as methods of participation and performance. In the first phase, Dubais completed a 5 song EP, based on experimental data sets created with ChatGPT and various musical freeware.

“As an artist, I am VERY UNINTERESTED in generating work or working with AI; particularly considering the environmental factors. However, as a practice led cultural theorist, I am interested in the ways AI can help aid human empathy through knowledge construction through its momentum of consumer usage.”

Dubais is the solo venture of Nadia Buyse (also in Snoozers) and recent live guest on the LOUD WOMEN radio show on Resonance FM. Listen back on Mixcloud here.

Dubais play LOUD WOMEN Fest NYC on May 10th.
