I’m so charming I forgot who I was (I) depicts an ascent into adulthood littered with gendered conflict, systemic violence, a global pandemic and political instability.
The EP kicks off strong with ‘let’s go dancing’; a rock-jazz feast with qualities of off-kilter theatre that let’s you know this isn’t your usual indie-rock band. Bandleader Pagona Kytzidis tops it all off with her distinctive vocals, completing a sound full of quirks and eccentricity.
partygirl show off their versatility and expert musicianship with songs such as ‘fine, fine, fine’ and ‘goodbye. goodbye’ that use the violin and viola talents of Claire Lin Jenkins to hint at folk sensibilities. A never-ending exploration of styles and genres, partygirl is a chasm of talented experimentation.
Previously reviewed single ‘clean’ is still a highlight of this EP for me, ebbing and flowing with the freedom and vigour. This song is a perfect blend of raw vulnerability and musical mastery.
