Transatlantic indiepop duo Prima Queen (Louise Macphail and Kristin McFadden) showcase a new era for the band on debut album The Prize, out today via Submarine Cat Records. Taking listeners on a 12 track celebration of friendship and love.
Having built a glowing live reputation, the album is inspired by the eurphoria experienced by the pair whilst on tour with the likes of Wet Leg and Olivia Dean. The Prize showcases the band’s charismatic storytelling and maturity, with early singles ‘Fool’ and ‘Ugly’ a gateway to the quality fans can expect on the full album.
Speaking ahead of the release of their third LP and title track The Prize the band stated:
Writing ‘The Prize’ felt kind of magical – we thought we had finished the album but this song suddenly came to us while we were writing in the studio with our producer Steph (Marziano) and we knew it had to be the album title-track. It felt like it tied all the other songs together in a really special way. It’s a song to remind you that YOU’RE THE PRIZE which is easy to forget sometimes!
For fans of the likes of Haim and the Big Moon the quality of the band is obvious throughout the album with unreleased track Meryl Streep (a personal favourite) and newest single Oats (Ain’t Gonna Beg) highlighting the bands versatility.
In support of the album the band are preparing for their biggest London show to date at Islington Assembly Hall on 22 May, as well as a number of live dates and record shop in-stores.
