Brighton noise rock quartet Slung follow up on their previous releases with energetic punk rock anthem ‘Laughter’.
Laughter is a testament to those harbouring resentment towards their family relationships, the echoing part of the chorus ‘Blood runs thicker than water’ proving to tug on the strings of those who’ve had similar experiences.
“This song is about a face-off that’s been a long time coming, and the difficult relationships we can have with our family, especially our parents”.
The song opens with an infectious, gritty guitar riff that follows into the rest of the song, leading into a crescendo of a breakdown in the middle, all accompanied by lead singer and lyricist Katie Oldham showing off her vocal range, from soft beautiful melodies to cathartic noise rock screaming. You can feel the anger emanating off of this song, making it the perfect show opener. The video demonstrates this, showing the band playing an empty birthday party, and ending with a good old fashioned cake throwing fight.
If ‘Laughter’ is a representation of how the band mean to go on for 2025, they are definitely one to watch.
