Since forming in 2016, psychedelia-infused post-punks Chemtrails have been compelling audiences to dance and shout-along all across the UK, and now it’s Blackpool’s turn! They’re making their Rebellion debut this year, and, trust me, you’re not going to want to miss out.
If you haven’t checked them out yet, then keep reading, and see what you’ve been missing!
For anyone not familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound?
Somewhere on that sweet spot between ABBA and the Stooges.
If you had to recommend one of your songs to a new listener, which one would it be?
Depends if they’re more into ABBA (Join our Death Cult) or the Stooges (Superhuman Superhighway).
You recently released your third album, The Joy of Sects, earlier this year. Can you tell us a bit about it?
It’s an album of twangy, angular, mutant pop music, inspired by new-wave, psych, surf, glam, krautrock and the terrifying state of the modern world.
Are there any bands you’re particularly excited to see over the weekend?
Of the bigger names, we’re all excited for Stiff Little Fingers! Of the more local bands, we’ve heard great things about Bruise Control so really looking forward to them.
What else are you up to this year?
Working on new songs! We’ve just come back from a 2-week European tour which was a shared life ambition come true, and to do it again soon we need to get cracking and make another album. We’ve got more than enough song ideas already, just need to figure out which are the good ones… We’ll also be playing at Manchester Psych Fest, and we’ve got a few gigs round the UK in October/November, including our first ever Scotland dates.
Chemtrails will be performing on the Introducing stage on the Saturday of Rebellion Festival this year – tickets and info here.
